Listing Details

Phenomenal item, offered is a four-page page full ALS from 1906 on Chicago City Clerks office letterhead. Written entirely in the hand of vital 19th century HOFer Cap Anson, a small quantity of these came on the market at one time back in the 1990s but have long since been placed in private collections, creating a true rarity for any examples at public auction. Only the third Cap Anson autograph we have handled, this is written on two clean pages, with extensive content relates to some commercial issues, but content does include: I am looking for about five acres of ground for a ball ground. Content is extremely detailed and reveals a very subtle and entrepreneurial mind, this is not far, far from your usual baseball player’s letter. Anson seems to have his finger in everything, even a Billiard league he is planning on entering for extra income. Signed AC Anson at the close, Anson Co in written at the bottom of page two as well. A special piece, a truly fascinating letter, this real treasure could elevate the stature of many an autograph collection. Please note Cap Anson died in 1922, was the first player to get 3,000 hits and had a historic if greatly flawed impact on early baseball history. An extremely rare autograph again, these are missing from all but the most prominent HOF autograph collections in the country. We are going to start this with a really low minimum bid to make things especially interesting! JSA LOA (full).
