Listing Details

The ultimate post-war baseball card, this is among the most famous and revered cards ever issued. The offered card is a truly great looking card. Obtained decades ago by our consignor, this was originally in a Global 4.5 holder (he had it graded personally at a show in Boston, he did not buy it from a dealer). We brought it to PSA at the National and they naturally chopped it one grade. The card offers rich, bold and beautiful color and has a strikingly fine image. The eye appeal of this card is better than 90% of the 52 Mantles that we see. Centering is just about 50/50 top to bottom and no worse than 65/35 to the right border. There is a very, very slight corner crease at the upper right corner and slight corner wear at the lower right corner, the only real flaws. The back is perfectly clean. Advanced collectors of this card know the difference in eye appeal for a bright colorful card versus something with washed out color. This is as rich and deep color and one will ever see on a 52 Mantle in our opinion, making this the kind of card that literally stands out in a crowd. The eye appeal here is a at least one grade about the 3.5 assigned by PSA, the winning should be very, very pleased with this beautiful example of one of the ultimate baseball cards that has ever been produced.
