Listing Details

Nice item, this is a clean August 20, 1912 TLS on TR's office letterhead. Written to a California journalist (G.B. Daniels), this has great content. TR discusses his prospects in California and specifically criticizes his one-time protege Taft in the letter. He writes in part: I value the clippings you sent me and I shall see if The Outlook cannot publish them. It seems to me that it ought to do so. They brand the Taft managers and Taft himself as having deliberately taken part in that theft. TR was in the midst of his historic third party run for the Presidency in 1912, it is truly extraordinary to find a letter for public sale in which one President criticizes another, particularly his favored successor. Signed Theodore Roosevelt in large dark ink, this is a terrific historical letter. JSA LOA (full).
