Listing Details

Something that we have never seen before, we have shown these to various vintage specialists and no one has seen these. Offered is a fine run of 2 x 3 printed cards for some sort of board game. Likely a set, the content almost completely parallels the legendary 1957-58 Topps basketball set and is almost certainly from either of those years. These have printed odds for field goals, free throws, personal fouls, rebounds and assists. The backs are black, but some cards have handwritten notes in pencil. We also have the hockey counterparts to these as a separate lot in the auction. We attempted to have the Bill Russell slabbed and the grading companies did not want to do so but this certainly could change in the future, with some enormous potential upside. The content here is simply awesome, with Cousy, Heinsohn, Stokes, Pettit, Hagan, Arizin, Twyman, Sharman, Mikkelsen, Lloyd, Clifton, MacAuley, Schayes, Sam Jones (he is not in the 57-8 set but was a 57 Celtic) and Hundley. These certainly appear to be vintage but we do not know the issuer and could not find a period basketball game that was produced with such cards. This is a truly fascinating lot to our eyes.

REVISED: THIS WAS ISSUED AS PART OF A NEGAMCO BASKETBALL BOARD GAME, LATE 1950s.
