Among the keys to any single signed ball collection has to be the autograph of Walter Johnson by himself. Considered by most to be the greatest pitcher in the history of baseball, Johnson passed away in 1946 and is no common autograph on any medium, much less a single signed ball. The offered ball is an evenly toned Spalding King of the Diamond model, that is presumably from the 1930s. The ball is signed To Jack Walter Johnson on the sweet spot in attractive black fountain pen ink. The signature has a nice flow, and contrasts nicely against the ball. This is one of the best Walter Johnson singles we have seen in years. The signature is a pleasing 8/10 overall in our view. An absolutely vital single signed ball given the significance of this player and the scarcity, this is the kind of piece that can almost instantly elevate the stature of a signed baseball collection. Our consignor purchased this from us back in 2010, this has been off the market for fourteen years! JSA LOA (full).
