1926 Roosevelt, Franklin. Whither Bound. Fine (dj Very Good)

This first edition with the original dust jacket was FDRÕs first commercially printed book and as such is quite significant. The wonderful provenance of this very limited print run only adds to its allure. The binding is stained and there are some chips on the dust jacket by the lower left edge and upper right edge, but overall the cover has nice eye appeal. This book was based on a lecture given at the Milton Academy in 1926 regarding the fate of the alumni of World War One. FDR begins his speech with the following commentary that is a classic example of FDRÕs activist, even neo-activist, political philosophy: ÒBut the World War brought forth so many new problems for all peoples that our peace must be a peace of action and constructive progress. The men who gave their lives would have had it so, and they call on us to-day to finish their task.Ó The book itself is in fine condition with the original blue cloth covers. Published by Houghton Miffin in Boston in 1926 while FDR was still Governor of New York state, with much higher political offices ever on his mind. Ex-Eleanor Roosevelt library.
