1927 Harry Heilmann Sign

1927 Harry Heilmann Sign

Displayed is a very rare 1920s Harry Heilmann Lucky Strike advertising sign, one whose brilliant coloration depicts the Detroit Tiger Hall of Famer following through on his sweet swing. With a .342 lifetime batting average, he is a classic HOFer from his era. The offered advertisement was most likely cut from a larger advertisement. The image of Heilmann and the advertising copy is contained in a shadow box that measures 17.5x 38.75 , with a depth of 2.5 . The piece is on thick cardstock. At bottom is machine printed: I smoke Luckies because they are the best. Harry Heilmann - Leading Batter of the World - Detroit Tigers/Batting Average .396 . The advertisement also has an image of a pack of Lucky Strike Cigarettes. Because the Heilmann image and accompanying verbiage was probably cut from a somewhat larger advertisement, the cutting and removal probably caused some of the folds, creases, and minor paper loss that is evident on the Heilmann image, the bat image (which may have been reattached after having been in several), and the advertising copy. Despite some imperfections, most of a minor nature, the century old advertisement has great eye appeal and a wonderful vintage baseball charm that will attract favorable attention in any collection.
