The 1904 Olympics were held simultaneous with the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, informally known as the St. Louis World's Fair. These were the first Olympic Games held outside Europe.
A ticket to the Fair included admission to the respective day’s Olympic events.
Boxing made its Olympic debut at the St. Louis Games. The games for the first time exclusively included the newly-debuted freestyle wrestling rather than the Greco-Roman version. The current three-medal format of gold, silver and bronze for first, second and third place also was introduced at the 1904 Olympics.
