Lot #23 # Hughie Jennings Single Signed Ball (signed in 1909!) Cond: 6

One of the most interesting figures from the deadball era in baseball history, Jennings was a HOFer and a player-manager as well. A teammate of Ty Cobb, Jennings is best known for his Eeh-Yah dance that is memorably depicted on many of his cards. After retiring as a player, Jennings became a lawyer and was also a coach for 1920s New York Giant teams. A supremely rare autograph on any medium, much less a baseball, Jennings died in 1928 at age 58. There are only a handful of single signed baseballs in existence, we believe the offered lot is fresh to the hobby. The ball is fully toned and clear-coated with wear, it is signed Hugh Jennings in solid black fountain pen ink, just below is a game score of Detroit 3 Chicago 1 that may well be in Jennings hand. There is an inscription on the opposing side of the ball with a 1909 date. One of the earliest single signed balls in the hobby for any player, much less a HOFer and rarity like Jennings, this is just a remarkable and amazing signed baseball that is worthy of the top collections in the hobby.
